APAC's
research projects span several policy areas involving major
agricultural commodities, energy, the environment, and rural
development. APAC's research focus covers a wide spectrum
ranging from farm and state to regional and national levels.
Economics
of the Ag Sector The
heart of APAC's research involves agricultural and commodity
policies and programs and other policies affecting agriculture.
An important goal in APAC's analysis is to consider the inherent
variability in the ag sector including uncertainly in yields
and exports.
Farm
Bill APAC
is particularly interested in the economic consequences of alternative
farm policies. APAC compares the impacts of alternative farm
bill provisions, estimating the impacts at the national level
as well as regional impacts.
Tobacco
Policy and Economics Located
in East Tennessee, APAC has a special interest in policies and
market forces affecting tobacco. Changes in quotas, the tobacco
settlement, the federal tobacco program, contracting, and new
uses for tobacco are all examples of tobacco-related issues
addressed by APAC.
Bioenergy
and New Crop Uses APAC
is interested in the potential for new agricultural products
or expanded uses to provide income opportunities for the traditional
ag sector and rural communities. Much of our work in this area
focuses on the intersection of agricultural policy and energy
policy.
