Policy
for the 21st Century
The
John Pesek Colloquium on Sustainable Agriculture was created to
honor the seminal contribution John Pesek made to the field of
alternative or sustainable agriculture and to bring issues in
sustainable agriculture to both a university and a community forum.
Each year, a two-day Colloquium presents a lecture that takes
place on the campus of Iowa State University and a public forum
off-campus that encourages discussion and community response to
points raised in the lecture. The first day features a nationally
known speaker with an important link to sustainable agriculture;
the second day is organized as a community forum and panel discussion.
The purpose of this structure is to recognize and bring out the
contributions to sustainable agriculture made at the local, grass-roots
level as well as at the national or international level.
The
2004 Pesek Colloquium speaker was Daryll E. Ray, the Blasingame
Chair of Excellence in Agricultural Policy, professor of agricultural
economics and director of the Agricultural Policy Analysis Center
(APAC) at the University of Tennessee.
