Tennessee Tobacco Working Group

TTWG Clipart

The Tennessee Tobacco Working Group (TTWG) is a dialogue among Tennesseans with diverse interest in tobacco issues, facilitated by the Agricultural Policy Analysis Center. The TTWG is part of the Southern Tobacco Communities Project, a similar dialogue among tobacco interests in the six major tobacco producing states: North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The group involves all stakeholders in issues related to tobacco, including tobacco growers and agricultural groups, public health interests, researchers and educators, legislators and government agencies, and community leaders.

This portion of the APAC web site is devoted to disseminating information about the Tennessee Tobacco Working Group and its activities. If you would like more information about the TTWG or have any questions about this material, please contact the project director, Dr. Kelly Tiller.

TTWG Meetings

The Tennessee Tobacco Working Group generally meets two or three times a year or as tobacco issues arise.

The most recent TTWG meeting was held May 23, 2002, on the UT Ag Campus. The meeting was primarily focused on tobacco quota buyout proposals. Other discussion topics included proposals to increase the state's cigarette excise tax and updates on tobacco settlement spending, Phase II, and the tobacco grower lawsuit.
